Doctors and disaster response teams have reportedly been deployed to the scene, according to Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Kolkata: This morning in the West Bengali district of Darjeeling, an express train collided with a cargo train, resulting in nine deaths and over fifty injuries, including three Railway officials. A freight train struck the Kanchanjunga Express from behind as it was traveling from Agartala, Tripura, to Sealdah, Kolkata, close to Rangapani station, which is near New Jalpaiguri.
The collision caused three of the Kanchanjunga Express’s coaches to derrail. The fact that the guard’s coach and package coach in the back of the Kanchanjunga Express experienced less damage than the passenger compartments further ahead did is one aspect that reduced the number of victims.
The accident occurred at approximately nine in the morning, Railway Board Chairperson Jaya Verma Sinha informed the journalists. “The recovery effort is finished. The injured are receiving the best care available at the North Bengal Medical College, where they have been moved,” the spokesperson stated.
She stated that the unaffected front section of the Kanchenjunga Express will soon continue on its intended course, enabling the passengers to arrive at their destination.
Doctors and disaster response teams have reportedly been deployed to the scene, according to Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
The Kanchenjunga Express has allegedly been struck by a cargo train; further information is needed. To aid with recovery, rescue, and medical needs, DM, SP, physicians, ambulances, and disaster teams have been dispatched to the scene. “She wrote on X, “Action on a war footing has commenced.”
Bengal is connected to the Northeastern cities of Agartala and Silchar by the Kanchanjunga Express, which runs daily. The Chicken’s Neck corridor, which links the Northeast with the rest of the nation, passes along this route. The movement of multiple other trains may be impacted by the accident on this line.
Travelers heading to Darjeeling often take the Kanchanjunga Express. The disaster occurs when many people are traveling to the hill area in search of some respite from the oppressive summer heat in Kolkata and the neighboring region of south Bengal.
